The Big 3-0!

As in my parents' 30th wedding anniversary that is~Congrats Mom & Dad!

I know that I truly take for granted just how special this accomplishment is since this is pretty well the standard in my family (immediate & extended). Divorce is just not something that has happened very much & when I say that I mean that it has only happened (I think?) 3 times in my families, which might sound normal/average until you consider that I have 14 biological aunts & uncles most of whom are married & 56 biological & adopted cousins (1/2 to 3/4 who are also married already!) Add in my parents, both of my grandparents' long marriages, my marriage & my sisters' marriages & that's a whole lot of people with a whole lot of marriage/love experience! I feel blessed to have grown up with so many great examples. That being said, I also realize that the choice to love someone for life is both the easiest & the hardest thing that one will do, but in the end it is so worth it & I hope I am lucky enough to have (at least) 30 years of it too!

How hard can it be with such a great example of two such star-crossed lovers to follow?

Wait a minute...am I still talking about my parents?

I asked mom on the phone tonight "So does it feel like it's been 30 years?"

She replied...
"Sometimes. When your father picks at me, it definitely feels like 30 years-it gets old after awhile you know...he only does it to get a rise out of me because he thinks it's funny, but it's not."

Awwwww...can't you just feel the love :)

(Sorry to pick on you mom~I'm not sure where that comes from ;) Congrats again!

That SO sounds like my mom and dad. They've been married 37 years. My dad always says, "yep... thirty plus years and I don't regret one day of it. And that one day was back in June, 1983 (or fill in some other random date)." Heh. Happy Anniversary to your parents!

My parents had been married 37 years 6 days before my beloved Dad passed over last year (the day after my birthday of all days).

In my eyes they've been married 38 years this year because if he was still alive they'd still be married, him passing doesn't change that as they were soulmates.

I was one of the 'abnormal' ones growing up because my parents were still together, something I was forever grateful for and still am.

Congratulations to your parents and here's to another 30 years!

My folks have been married for 37 years. For a while I didn't get it with them, but now, I see how it works.

Haha, my parents are coming up on 40... and some days you have to wonder how (seeing as from time to time, I'm pretty sure they're gonna light eachother on fire... lol).

Marriage is definitely work and love is a choice. I too am thankful for the example my parents have given me. They will be celebrating 48 years together in September!

congrats to your parents!!

That is a great thing to come from! Means the value of marriage is taken seriously and isn't something taken lightly and w/o thought!

HAPPY ICLW!

Aww how sweet! Congrats to your parents! Mine were married for 30 years before my mom passed away. While it was never prefect, I always knew they loved each other.

I wish you at least 30 years of happy martial bliss.

My parents were together until my dad's death in 1995. They had 23 years together, picking and all. I hope yours have another 30 years together!

Congratulations to your parents on their anniversary, and kudos to you and your whole family for what sounds like a *very* high percentage of long and happy marriages! My own parents have been married for 57 years and it is an inspiration to me.

Happy ICLW :)

I read back a little on your entries and had to laugh at the "Lucas" story. My kids all have 100 nick names it seems.

Happy Anniversary to your Parents!! That's amazing!! I was married (the first time) for 10 years and it should have ended after 5 but...regardless... I hope to celebrate 25 years with my current husband and up :)

I grew up in a large family like yours. My mom was one of eight children (all 7 of the others were boys!) ... most of them are married, all of them have kids of their own... I was the oldest Grandchild and now some of the others are starting to get married and have children... there have been a lot of divorces in our family though, I wish I could say there were only 3 ... but my Grandparents were awesome! They were together for 40 some years before my Grandpa died, my Grandma was with us for another 12 years... I remembering their bickering and I laugh now cuz at the time when I was little, I thought it was serious, and now that I do it with my husband, I realize it was just fun and games... lol... I look back on those days now and think of how much they truly loved each other. It amazes me and I'm lucky to have found the same, even if it took 10 years of wrong to put me on the path to right. :)

My parents have been married for 36 years. Cheers to us both having parents who are still married to each other after all these years. That is so rare in this day and age!
